Traidcraft at St Edmund's

Traidcraft is a Christian based organisation that aims to reduce poverty through trade. We have had a stall at St. Edmund's for nearly 20 years so thank you for helping to make a difference by buying goods at a fair price and giving the producers a living wage and, very importantly, respect and dignity.

The Traidcraft stall will be open JUST ONCE at St. Edmund's in December: Sunday 11 December after the 10am service. So take the opportunity to stock up for Christmas and the New Year.

Yummy bars of chocolate or delicious honey make ideal last minute presents or stocking fillers.

Do a mini hamper of tea/coffee, biscuits, jam/marmalade/honey for a special gift.

As a change from wine give Zaytoun olive oil instead. A really high quality oil in small and large bottles. The olive harvest supports over half the population in Palestine so our support is really valued.

Are you looking for ideas on how to use Traidcraft goods? Try one of these recipes:

Christine's Chocolate Sauce
This is wonderful hot or cold with profiteroles, poached pears or ice cream.
Ingredients:
100 gm bar Traidcraft plain chocolate
1.5 oz Traidcraft castor sugar
2 level teaspoons Traidcraft cocoa powder
0.5 pint cold water
2 level teaspoons cornflour (optional)
Method:
Put broken up chocolate, sugar, cocoa and water into a saucepan. Heat and stir until dissolved. Simmer 10 minutes or until syrupy. If a thicker consistency is required, stir in cornflour blended with a tablespoon of cold water and stir and boil for 2 minutes.
If you really must then you can add a spoonful or two of Cointreau or brandy!!

Spicy roast parsnips
Ingredients:
As many parsnips as you like, peeled and cut into half inch cubes
Traidcraft honey - your favourite kind
Coarse grain mustard
Zaytoun olive oil
Method
Mix oil, honey and mustard together (use the quantities you like to give a coating consistency for your parsnips (I use a base of 2 tablespoons oil, honey and 1 of mustard). Coat parsnips. Cook in oven covered until tender and then remove cover for last 10 minutes to give a lovely roast flavour.

If you can't get to the stall then please talk to Christine Brett or Jill Vogler about what you might want to buy.

We look forward to seeing you.
Christine and Jill
